Crime and punishment
Last weekend after taking Bruno to see Winnie the Pooh (his first movie in the theatre!) we asked him if he needed to use the potty. He said no which was no surprise. I told him that if he peed in his car seat (AGAINOMFG!) I was taking mister potato head away for a week, “are you sure you don’t want to try?”
“I don’t WANNA go potty!” was his reply. So we got into the car and as we pulled up to our house less than 5 minutes later, he said, “I peed.”
So the next few days were filled with mini meltdowns but also he was learning! When he’d refuse to go potty, I’d remind him that his toy was taken away because he didn’t go potty when he had he chance and he’d instantly try and inevitably go.
And even at school, he has had fewer accidents this week which has earned him his toy back 2 days early.
When I gave his Mr. Potato Head back this morning he held his toy close, looks at me and said, “I love him, mom.”
Accident free for the love of Mr. Potato Head.

Whatever works. Hope all is dry before bambino arrives – we were on the cusp w/number one when #2 arrived, and it all went to shit (wakka wakka) for another 6 months. But that won’t happen to you.
Awwwweeee!
@karen, He is good most of the time but we just have such an issue with convincing him to try before we get in the car and he’s peed in that damn seat so many times that I had to pull out the big guns. I told his teacher and she said, “No wonder he’s been so attached to Mr. Potato Head this week!” She seemed a little shocked and maybe it was a little harsh but, like you said, whatever works!
And yeah, I hope that this is far enough ahead of time that he doesn’t feel like reverting is an option. oy.
